Wood tones and finishes

Each finish changes the feel of a room. Here's how they compare.

Kitchen island and upper cabinets in a light natural oak finish

Natural oak

Open, visible grain and a warm honey tone. Hides everyday wear well and suits both classic and modern kitchens.

  • Warm
  • Strong grain
  • Hard-wearing

Maple

Pale and smooth with a fine, even grain. Takes stain evenly and is a popular base for painted doors.

  • Light
  • Smooth grain
  • Paints well

Walnut

  • Statement piece

Painted finishes

Clean whites, soft greiges, greens, greys and deep tones. A smooth, solid colour that shows off the door profile.

  • Clean look
  • Easy to pair

Door styles

The door sets the style of the whole kitchen. Most projects use one of these two.

Shaker doors

A flat centre panel framed by a square-edged rail and stile. Timeless, works in traditional and transitional kitchens, and looks sharp painted or stained.

See it in: white shaker kitchens, greige and cream shaker kitchens.

Modern flat-panel doors

A single smooth slab with no frame. Clean lines, easy to wipe down, and ideal for showing off wood grain or a bold colour.

See it in: oak bar cabinets, sage green and driftwood grey kitchens.
